Equine First Aid and Stable Management - September 2022




This short course is suitable for private horse owners or people currently working within the equine industry as grooms, coaches, within equine rescue/rehabilitation centres, competitive riders, horse breeders and those with an interest in equine stable management and first aid for horses.

This course will expand students’ knowledge and education of the equine industry regarding treating and preventing injuries and illnesses in horses along with management skills of how to ensure the highest levels of equine welfare.


Detailed Description

This course is run alongside Heath Equine Veterinary Practice and will provide learners with the opportunity to get hands on practical experience with treatments of wounds, specialised bandaging techniques, lameness identification and equine health checks.

This course is a must for anyone wanting to make advancements in their knowledge of horses and how to keep them fit and well. 

Topics covered include:

  • Equine health checks
  • Basic equine anatomy
  • Assessing lameness in horses
  • Condition scoring and weighing horses
  • How to maintain a healthy weight in horses
  • Common equine injuries and aliments and their treatment
  • Caring for a horse on ‘box rest’
  • Emergency first aid for horses
  • Bandaging and dressing equine wounds
  • Equine dental care
  • Foot care and shoeing
  • Pre-purchase vetting’s for horses

The course runs for 10 weeks, beginning on 8th September 2022.
