ENG4AC – Supplementary Maths for Engineers

ENG4AC

FREE OF CHARGE

Description

This course covers the key aspects of level 4 engineering mathematics in order for you to succeed in your Engineering degree course. Additionally an introduction to mathematics modelling software (typically Matlab) will be provided as a foundation to progressing your skills in this area at Level 5.

It is expected that students on this module will have studied L4 maths previously and are using this as a refresher or relearning opportunity after some time away from studies.

Detailed Description

This programme is an online study that will:

  • Give new students an understanding of using the Wrexham Glyndwr University’s virtual learning environment, Moodle
  • Give students a recap of Level 4 mathematics in preparation for Level 5 study at WGU.
  • Show students how to use mathematics programming software such as Matlab

Assessment will be via a number of multi-choice moodle quizzes, there will be one after each section (4 in total). It is recommended that students have a scientific calculator to use for this module but also for the programmes at WGU going forward.

The recommended calculator for this module is Casio FX991 and some guidance in lectures will be given using this calculator. (NB it is not a requirement to have this hardware to study this module)

For the software element of this module Matlab will be used. A free trial of Matlab can be accessed for 31 days as a student through mathworks website. Alternatively Matlab Mobile can be used for this module, using an Android or Apple IOS smartphone. Instruction and support will be given to students at the start of the module in installing and accessing Matlab.

This course will start on the 9th August 2021 and will run over 6 weeks.

You will need to log in weekly to access the course content and undergo your studies. Support will be given via MS Teams and Moodle.
